Down's Economic Theory of Democracy is an easy to read introdution to the basics of voting theory. It is accessible to the casual reader as well as the hardcore acedemic. It's take on the electoral competition have become staples of high school civis as well as acedemic political theory.

The most misunderstood book in political science

An Economic Theory of Democracy is among the most influential books in political science. It is also among the most misunderstood. The book has 300 pages of content. The famous median voter theorem represents three of them. The remaining 297 pages involve extensions, limitations and generalizations -- exactly the sort of thing that most critics think it lacks. In the end, the book is really about the problems of limited information rather than about a unidimensional spatial model.

I was assigned several chapters from this book to read for one of my political science classes. I can't say I've come across any other books like this that describe the nature of electoral politics and realignments when they occur.

My professor did mention that this book revolutionized just how we view the electoral process. A good read, one that I would recommend. Diagrams are useful.

I won't write the headline in caps because if you are attracted to this post it was meant for you. I am in such gratitude for these gorgeous and sightful cards. I have had an auto connect with these cards from the minute I opened the package. They have literally changed my spiritual life and soon my mundane one as well. I have been practicing meditation and reading for friends and family. Now I am currently reading for strangers and let me tell you these cards have helped with scary accuracy. At first I just read what I saw on the images, whatever popped out to me I told the client. Many felt ths reading related but wanted more depth. I wasn't going to satisfy their need for depth by lying. I instead was patient and kept up practice. Yesterday for the first time I started getting strong messages from the cards that made me aware a shift was happening. At first I was hesitant to get "specific" but I decided to just go for it. When I got my first confirmation, literally I was speechless. I've always been empathic but wrote it off as "woman's intuition" until yesterday. Now I am getting more messages, sometimes images and great feedback. I currently offer free readings if you want to see for yourself and read through this whole post. If you did my FB name is Oshun Danielle from Miami. If you are thinking of getting these cards, go for it but know they will not connect with everyone. Did NOT come with a deck

The book itself if wonderful and has beautiful illustrations. When looking at the Look Inside preview it showed a complete set of the tarot cards and the book, so I naturally assumed that it would be included in with my purchase. It seems mixed on whether or not the seller includes the deck, so I'd say to be safe you should email the seller beforehand if you're not sure. It appears as a majority of those who purchased received both the book and deck. The seller I purchased from described the item in new condition. It may have been an oversight but until I have both products to review, I'll leave my review as is.

Update: I place the blame more on Amazon for not describing the item correctly. They make it seem like a book but when visiting the OSHO website where these cards are made, this is meant to be a box set and even has a link to this item for purchase. Information is very misleading and confusing. I really don't have use for the book without the cards so I'll be returning. Very disappointed.

I like it better than a regular tarot deck

This deck is for the here and now. I use it daily. It helps me see past the mind before I realize the mind is playing tricks on me! I like it better than a regular tarot deck. There are some correlations, but I feel as though the intent behind these cards is not the same as for the tarot. The archetypal images are used more for the moment than for discerning a future moment, which is more inline with my personal life philosophy.

Wow! Learn Adjectives AND more!

I was a little put off by the last reviewer's comments about the book and one star rating but took the chance anyway... and found this to be an excellent book despite it being a book full of 'fill in the blanks'!
The Complete Adjective Guide is over 200 pages of exercises that slowly get you into adjectives, nouns, sentence structure and adjective conjugation. I never knew how complex and helpful Japanese adjectives are for sentence structure and information conveyance. As you learn about the adjectives, they take you into verb/adjective conjugation and you slowly learn how to conjugate verbs as well! Brilliant.
This isn't a book for the absolute beginner; it is best to have some Japanese vocab under your belt at this point, and a very basic understanding of Japanese sentence structures. Despite that, this book does provide two indexes in the back with Japanese words used and the English translation, and English words with the Japanese provided.
I highly recommend this book for the 'just past' beginner student.

Adjectives Simplified

Most books on the language, when discussing adjectives mix and match the "i" adjectives and the "na" adjectives, this book however keeps them seperate, and therefore helps your grasp of their usage expand quicker than other "sections" devoted to Japanese Adjectives contained in Japanese Language books.

The workbook progresses in a logical way and is always easy to follow. If you are a student of Japanese working on adjectives or just looking for a good way to practice, this book is for you!
