Miguel DeQuadros

Miguel DeQuadros is a game developer and the founder of the independent development studio, Wurd Industries, based in Ontario, Canada. He has been developing iPhone games since the release of the App Store back at the exciting release of iOS 2.0. Since then, he has released 10 games and 1 entertainment app world-wide on the App Store with more to come from Wurd Industries. He was originally interested in 3D animation and graphical design, which he focused on mainly in 2004. But, he then got the game development bug and has been developing iPhone apps since 2008, which also allows him to use his creativity and knowledge of 3D animation for cut scenes and videos within his apps, and he is loving every minute of it. Starting from his first project, Toy Tennis, back in 2008, down to his current project, SpaceRoads, for PC, Mac, Wii U, and other platforms, he continues to develop high-quality apps and games alike. Moving away from simple game development tools, he now primarily uses Unity3D, 3D Studio Max, and the Unreal Engine for his current project in an aim to create very high-quality games. His games can be seen on the App Store on iOS, Steam Greenlight, Amazon, and IndieCity, and of course on his website, www.wurdindustries.com. This is a book I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn or improve their game development skills on the iOS platform. The book is well written and the author does a great job at explaining the different concepts of game development, including all the steps needed for releasing the game on the App Store.

I do believe that you should have some prior experience in order to get the most out of this book, readers without any programming knowledge might find it a bit tough to follow. So if you have some experience and want to learn more about iOS game development, this book could be a great starting point. It certainly was for me.

This is a Billionaire series I can get behind.

Billionaire BDSM isn't necessarily always my thing, mostly because it's very stereotypical, usually sort of vapid and empty, and the characterization is at best inconsistent.

This series has totally won me over. I would take this over Fifty Shades any day. The sex is hot, the tension is great, the characters are believable, the heroine is happily aroused without being a simpering idiot, and the author clearly understands the true nature of domination, rather than just relying on emotional manipulation and blindfolds to make a romance 'kinky'. Maybe it's because of her experience with femmedom, but the dominance is actually HOT, it makes sense, and you can genuinely understand why the heroine would go back for more.

So thank you, Ms. Adler, for giving me a BDSM series I can really enjoy. I recommend this to fans of the genre, and those who aren't as keen on it.

"Overview" of the Basics

The title might be more accurate as "A Good Overview of Some of the Basics of SketchUp Drawing for Builders". There is A LOT more information that needs to be provided in order to use the program effectively or to it's ability. A good start, but I was expecting more. Upon completion of the DVD & exercises, you might be able to draw a very simple one-room cabin, but there is much more information/tutorials necessary in order to fully document, with dimensions, a minimal set of drawings that would be required/necessary for a builder, his subcontractors, or submittal to a governing agency for a Building Permit. Probably expecting too much from this DVD, but expected more than was delivered. Very Basic Overview of a few of the primary drawing commands and element grouping strategies. I like/appreciate the approach/teaching style....just wanted/needed more!

About the Author
Laura Nader is Professor of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley, and a member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences. Nader's books include Naked Science: Anthropological Inquiry into Boundaries, Power and Knowledge (1996), The Life of the Law (2002), and, with Ugo Mattei, Plunder–When the Rule of Law is Illegal (Blackwell, 2008). Her films To Make the Balance and a later PBS film Little Injustices are widely disseminated.

Necessary for anyone who uses energy

For someone whose entire capacity of knowledge stemmed from a 4th-grade research project, but who was pretty self-satisfied about her knowledge of the energy problem and its possible solutions nonetheless, this book was an eye-opener. Anyone who believes that they are a clean-energy advocate -- or anyone who believes that renewable energy is not a necessity -- should read this book. It is a primer in the very best sense of the word, readying the mind to think critically about and discuss (and debate if necessary) our consumption of energy, our current energy sources and energy possibilities. The diverse set of readings show us where we've been, where we are and where we can go; it juxtaposes the dreams that scientists and policy-makers had decades ago with today's energy realities.

Laura Nader's Reader serves as an introduction to prominent thinkers in the energy field -- Amory Lovins, Duane Lockard Barbara Rose Johnston stand out in my mind -- and, perhaps most importantly, to the idea that while energy shifts must by their nature be revolutionary, they need not be radical. The idea that we must subject ourselves to authoritarian rationing in order to limit our energy use or change our energy sources -- the idea that placing limits on our energy use is somehow anti-progress or illiberal or undemocratic -- is soundly turned on its head in this reader. Through the readings, we learn that we have a choice. We learn to think about our energy sources as intrinsically tied up in the way we live, rather than merely fueling the way we live.

"Energy in Action" portions of the book give readers hope by providing examples of paradigm shifts in thought and action that are already being played out with regard to energy use.

While a few readings are a bit redundant -- for instance, the many mentions of Nader's work in the Committee On Nuclear and Alternative Energy Systems study groups could easily have been replaced by one or two -- and the space in the book could have been used to flesh out other issues like energy policy's relationship with foreign policy or on energy possibilities other than solar, overall the book is a great read. While I used the book for a course with Professor Nader at UC Berkeley, this book is not only for students. It's a necessity for anyone who wants to speak authoritatively on energy issues, and to think critically about the way they live their lives.

The technologies, markets, and administrations of today's knowledge society are in crisis. We face recurring disasters in every domain: climate change, energy shortages, economic meltdown. The system is broken, despite everything the technocrats claim to know about science, technology, and economics. These problems are exacerbated by the fact that today powerful technologies have unforeseen effects that disrupt everyday life; the new masters of technology are not restrained by the lessons of experience, and accelerate change to the point where society is in constant turmoil. In Between Reason and Experience, leading philosopher of technology Andrew Feenberg makes a case for the interdependence of reason--scientific knowledge, technical rationality--and experience. Feenberg examines different aspects of the tangled relationship between technology and society from the perspective of critical theory of technology, an approach he has pioneered over the past twenty years. Feenberg points to two examples of democratic interventions into technology: the Internet (in which user initiative has influenced design) and the environmental movement (in which science coordinates with protest and policy). He examines methodological applications of critical theory of technology to the case of the French Minitel computing network and to the relationship between national culture and technology in Japan. Finally, Feenberg considers the philosophies of technology of Heidegger, Habermas, Latour, and Marcuse. The gradual extension of democracy into the technical sphere, Feenberg argues, is one of the great political transformations of our time.

Andrew Feenberg is Professor and Canada Research Chair in Philosophy of Technology at the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University. He is the author of Critical Theory of Technology, Alternative Modernity, Questioning Technology, Transforming Technology, and Heidegger and Marcuse.

About time to break free from postmodern and modern superstitions

Andrew Feenberg exposes the factual, social and moral fallacies of the most
prevalent superstitious belif in the inescapable influence of Technology (the
deterministic technology approach). Educational systems (just to mention one
of them) are carried away with this belief, wasting fortunes on baseless
projects since the 60s.

The idea of a democratic technology, which is Feenberg's philosophical flagship,
is explained in details, and is offered as the most valuable current
idea of social reform.

Sometimes, Feenberg is tedious, and sometimes, he is local patriotic to the point
of myopia (as in the case of Minitel), but all these do not reduce the vital
importance of this book. Educators, philosophers, and generally interested readers
should read it.

The GOOD old days

It is impossible to dislike this book.

It embraces everything which was so profound about the period during which the literary courtship took place.

For those of us who are old enough to remember the period we refer to that time as the 'good old days'.

They were good on just about every level and it really did not matter whether or not we could buy a ham. We had each other.
