Probably the best Yii2 book, I've read so far

I'm one of the reviewers of this book, but I'm writing this review purely as a customer and book reader. I'm a Yii developer with 5+ years of experience.

I have read this book thoroughly and I must admit that this is an outstanding piece of work. It targets a little bit more experienced Yii2 developers and thus does not focus on complete basics. Instead, it provides detailed information on most important topics, that covers application development.

Book consists of thirteen chapters and nearly 350 pages. These pages are full of important details, tips, tricks and a large number of useful examples.

Chapters are ordered from configuration, through key application development, to additional tasks around application life-cycle.

It includes:

- introductory topics (composer configuration and console commands or applications),
- basic application development (DAO, queries, data providers, AR, modules, widgets, assets and helpers),
- request life-cycle (authentication, authorization, routing, responses and events),
- advanced topics (RESTful applications, translation and internationalization),
- application life-cycle (testing, debugging, fixing performance and security).

Every aspect is discussed in details, supported by many examples and useful tips. Chapters are written in the way, that both beginners and advanced developers can benefit from them.

I have been searching for long time one big comprehensive knowledge well for Yii2. Ive tried vide tutorials and other books but this one gave me everything what i needed to start using this framework.

This book will lead you from installation to finished product. You will read about all Yii2 "things" like console, Active Record, modules and widgets, authentication, internationalization and how to build RESTful application.

What will be missing for your specific project you'll find yourself as you will be by now fluent Yii2 developer.

YES IT IS! Good overview, best book so far for Yii2

Hi,
I'm a software architect from Germany. There are not many books out there for Yii2. It (the framework) competes with Symfony and Laravel, also two of my favourites. In this book all relevant topics are covered, also the tricky ones like "authenticating and authorizing users" and "database handling with DAO" and REST, another hype out there. Also the real world is there with debugging, performance and security. To get an good overview I would recommend this book aside the online documentation itself.

What a great idea!

I bought "Show Me a Story" in a set of books about writing a book, to see how useful it would be. Let me tell you, teachers and homeschoolers. "Show Me A Story: Writing Your Own Picture Book" is a definite winner. Written for students 9-12, this book will lead potential writers directly down the writer's path. Frankly, I love this book! Actually, what's not to love!

In fact, as I was reading, ideas were bouncing back and forth, clamoring for their active service. As school librarian for a PK3-8 school, I also teach things related to libraries and research skills, books and writers and illustrators. Soon we will embark upon creating a picture book. Not only does "Show Me a Story" tell how, it shows how (thus the title).

For example:
On each double-page spread, there is an actual story showing how the tools are used. Tool 1: Stories can be divided into three parts: the Beginning, the middle, and the ending. Tool 2: Character, Tool 3: Problem. In this book within a book the problem is that Webster, a goose, is tired of the letter V, you know flying in the formation of the letter V. He wants change. (Beginning, setting, character, problem.)

Tool 4 "[I]llustrations will tell part of the story....The words of a story don't tell us [everything]. The illustrations show us."

So the book goes, tool by tool, with illustrations and pages from story to demonstrate techniques.
Wow, I thought, I would love to see what middle school students would create from nothing with explicit instructions to show the way!

The book concludes with a review of all the points detailed in the book. Then "Getting Started Exercises" suggests ways of using all these ideas, followed by very practical "Writing Tips." Example: "Read your work out loud. Do you stumble over certain words or sentences? See what you can change to make your story easier to read."

The last reminder of the gist of the book is the glossary, containing all the key words in writing a picture book. Although the recommended age is 9-12, I also recommend this book to ages 6-8. The first grade teacher in my school has her young ones create an illustrated book each year, whether fiction or nonfiction. Then she has these books duplicated and bound, and a copy presented to each student, the library, and other teachers they may have.

Yes, this is going to be a grand unit! I can hardly wait to begin!

This is a great story to teach how to write a story. It explains the different parts of story in a step-by-step way that is easy to understand. My students enjoyed it!

Sediment pickup functions are provided for unsteady flows. A new combined convection-diffusion model is provided for suspended sediment distributions. Different methods of sediment transport model building are presented together with some classical models.
